Pakistan, EU Agree to Deepen Strategic Partnership in Trade, Security and Climate Cooperation

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and the European Union have agreed to further expand cooperation across a wide range of sectors, including trade, investment, security, climate action, migration, and multilateral engagement, during the 8th Pakistan-EU Strategic Dialogue held in Islamabad.
The high-level dialogue was co-chaired by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mohammad Ishaq Dar, and the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas.
According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, the two sides held comprehensive discussions on bilateral relations, focusing on enhancing trade and investment, strengthening security cooperation, addressing climate change challenges, managing migration issues, and promoting collaboration within multilateral forums.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening Pakistan-EU relations and underscored the importance of expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest. The discussions also covered key regional and international developments, with both leaders exchanging views on global challenges and opportunities for greater coordination.
The Strategic Dialogue, the highest institutional platform between Pakistan and the European Union, highlighted the growing importance of the relationship at a time of increasing geopolitical and economic uncertainty.
Following the talks, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and EU Vice-President Kaja Kallas addressed a joint press briefing in Islamabad, where they emphasized the positive trajectory of Pakistan-EU relations and reiterated their commitment to building a broader and more forward-looking partnership.
Speaking at the briefing, Ishaq Dar described the European Union as one of Pakistan’s most important economic and diplomatic partners, stressing the need to further deepen cooperation across multiple sectors. He noted that the dialogue reflected the shared determination of both sides to strengthen engagement and pursue common objectives.
Kaja Kallas reaffirmed the European Union’s commitment to its partnership with Pakistan, highlighting cooperation in trade, sustainable development, climate resilience, regional stability, and people-to-people exchanges. She said the EU looked forward to expanding collaboration with Pakistan on issues of shared global concern.
Analysts view the outcomes of the 8th Pakistan-EU Strategic Dialogue as a reflection of the growing maturity of bilateral relations. Beyond traditional trade ties, the partnership is increasingly evolving into a broader strategic relationship encompassing diplomacy, security, economic cooperation, climate action, and multilateral engagement.
The dialogue and joint press briefing sent a clear signal that both Pakistan and the European Union are committed to strengthening long-term cooperation and exploring new avenues of partnership in an increasingly complex global environment.
