Islamabad: Pakistan Completes 5G Spectrum Auction, Government Secures Millions in Revenue

The 5G spectrum auction process has been completed at the headquarters of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority in Islamabad, generating approximately $507 million in revenue for the government. In total, around 480 MHz of spectrum was sold across multiple frequency bands.

Major telecom operators in Pakistan, including Jazz, Ufone, and Zong, participated in the auction and successfully secured spectrum in different bands. According to officials, the bands offered in the auction included 700 MHz, 2300 MHz, 2600 MHz, and 3500 MHz.

Sources say the 3500 MHz band is considered the primary frequency for 5G services, capable of delivering high-speed internet and low-latency connectivity. The 2600 MHz band also witnessed notable competition during the bidding rounds.

Following the auction, the process will move to spectrum assignment and network deployment, after which mobile operators will begin preparations to introduce 5G services in phases across major cities. Officials expect the initial rollout to start in Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi, providing users with significantly faster mobile internet in the near future.
