President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held a crucial high-level meeting at Aiwan-e-Sadr today to review the overall political and security situation of the country.
The meeting focused on the prevailing national challenges, constitutional matters and the law and order situation, particularly in the backdrop of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The meeting was attended by top leadership from both sides.
*From the Prime Minister’s side*, Deputy Prime Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, Adviser to the PM on Political Affairs Senator Rana Sanaullah, Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi, Federal Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan and Federal Minister Senator Ahad Cheema assisted the Prime Minister.
*From the President’s side*, Senator Sherry Rehman, Syed Naveed Qamar, Senator Saleem Mandviwalla and Dr. Asim Hussain assisted the President.
During the meeting, the Attorney General and the Law Minister gave a detailed constitutional briefing on Articles 232 and 234 and the parliamentary requirements for any major decision.
The most important development emerging from the meeting is that *both leaders have agreed to convene separate sessions of the National Assembly and the Senate on Tuesday, October 13.*
Political observers believe that the decision to summon both Houses separately is a clear signal that the federation intends to take Parliament into confidence before taking any major constitutional step.
