Pakistan Cuts Fuel Prices, Announces Iran–US Peace Talks in Islamabad

Islamabad, April 11: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a reduction in fuel prices, cutting petrol by Rs12 per litre to Rs366 and diesel by Rs135 per litre to Rs385, in a move aimed at providing relief to the public amid ongoing economic pressure. He said subsidies for motorcycles, public transport, and freight vehicles would continue to support lower- and middle-income groups.

The Prime Minister stated that the decision was taken to pass on the full benefit of declining global oil prices to the public, rejecting proposals to partially retain the relief to offset earlier government expenditures. He emphasized that the government considers it its responsibility to ease the burden on citizens facing high inflation.

Sharif also highlighted recent diplomatic developments, thanking the leadership of Iran and the United States for agreeing to peace talks in Islamabad. He said a temporary ceasefire has already been achieved and expressed hope that continued dialogue would lead to a lasting resolution, saving countless lives and promoting regional stability.

He added that Pakistan would play its role in facilitating the talks and described the development as a significant moment not only for the country but for the wider Muslim world.
