The Strait of Hormuz remains effectively closed amid ongoing regional conflict, following Iran’s decision earlier this month to restrict maritime traffic during escalating tensions.
Since early March, shipping through the vital waterway has been severely disrupted after Iran warned vessels against crossing and tightened control over the Strait.
Despite the closure, Iran has adopted a selective access policy, allowing only a limited number of ships from friendly countries to pass under strict coordination.
In this context, Iran has now permitted 20 Pakistani-flagged ships to transit, with only two vessels allowed to cross daily. Similar limited crossings for a few other ships were also reported in recent days.
The situation stems from the ongoing US-Israel–Iran conflict, which has disrupted global shipping, energy supplies, and humanitarian logistics, with the Strait remaining under tight Iranian control for nearly four weeks.
