Pakistan Supreme Court Orders Imran Khan’s Hospital Transfer

ISLAMABAD, August 18, 2026 — Pakistan’s Supreme Court has ordered authorities to transfer imprisoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan from Adiala Jail to a private hospital in Islamabad within 48 hours for specialised medical treatment.

A three-member Supreme Court bench directed that Khan remain under hospital care until the next hearing on September 16. The court also ordered the formation of a specialist medical board, including his personal physician, to assess and oversee his treatment.

The case was brought before the court by Khan’s family and legal representatives, who had sought his transfer to Shifa International Hospital and access to doctors of their choice.

Khan’s health has been a growing concern, particularly over an eye condition and other reported medical problems. Prison authorities maintain that he has received regular medical care, while his family and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have called for specialised treatment.

The court also ordered weekly family meetings and directed authorities to facilitate contact with Khan’s sons, who live abroad.

Khan, 73, has been imprisoned since August 2023 following a series of criminal and corruption cases. He and his party reject the allegations and describe the proceedings as politically motivated.

The latest ruling does not affect his convictions or other legal cases but places his medical treatment under direct judicial supervision.
