PML-N Dominates First Phase of AJK Elections, Wins 9 of 13 Seats in Mirpur Division
MIRPUR, Azad Jammu and Kashmir | July 28, 2026: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) emerged as the leading party in the first phase of the 2026 Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly elections, securing 9 of the 13 seats in the Mirpur Division, according to unofficial and unconfirmed results. The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) won the remaining 4 seats, while no other political party or independent candidate secured a seat in the division.
Polling was held across the districts of Mirpur, Kotli, and Bhimber under tight security arrangements. Election officials reported that voting remained largely peaceful, with voters turning out in significant numbers despite intense political competition.

Chief Election Commissioner Ghulam Mustafa Mughal said the Election Commission had taken all necessary measures to ensure that the electoral process remained free, fair, transparent, and peaceful. He thanked polling staff, security personnel, and voters for their cooperation and emphasized that the official results would be issued only after the completion of all legal procedures and result consolidation.
The Mirpur Division results provide an early indication of the political landscape ahead of the remaining phases of the AJK elections. The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly comprises 53 seats, and the overall government will be formed after the completion of polling and the announcement of final official results from all constituencies.
