Canada, Pakistan Agree to Expand Bilateral Cooperation During FM Anita Anand’s Landmark Visit

ISLAMABAD, July 20, 2026 — Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand concluded a landmark visit to Pakistan, holding meetings with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to strengthen bilateral relations.

Pakistan and Canada agreed to expand cooperation in trade, investment, agriculture, minerals, energy, security, immigration, and cybercrime. Following delegation-level talks, Ishaq Dar and Anita Anand addressed a Joint Press Stakeout, reaffirming their commitment to stronger bilateral ties and enhanced economic cooperation.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also witnessed the signing of a Protocol on Phytosanitary Regulations for the import of Canadian canola into Pakistan.

During her meeting with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, both sides discussed cooperation against illegal immigration, human trafficking, cybercrime, and agreed to expedite the signing of an MoU on law enforcement cooperation.

The visit, the first by a Canadian foreign minister in nearly two decades, is being seen as an important step toward revitalizing Pakistan-Canada relations.
