Pakistan Assumes OIC Women’s Chairmanship as Islamabad Declaration Adopted at 9th OIC Ministerial Conference
Islamabad, July 13, 2026: Pakistan successfully concluded the 9th OIC Ministerial Conference on Women in Islamabad with the unanimous adoption of the Islamabad Declaration, reaffirming the commitment of OIC member states to advancing the socio-economic and political empowerment of women across the Islamic world.
The two-day conference brought together ministers, senior officials and delegates from the 57-member Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), along with representatives of OIC institutions and international organizations. Pakistan formally assumed the two-year chairmanship of the OIC Ministerial Conference on Women from Egypt.
Held under the theme “Socio-Economic and Political Empowerment of Women in OIC Member States: Challenges and the Way Forward,” the conference focused on expanding women’s access to education, healthcare, entrepreneurship, digital inclusion, financial opportunities, leadership, and decision-making.
The Islamabad Declaration called for strengthened cooperation among OIC member states to promote inclusive and sustainable development, reinforce legal and institutional frameworks for women’s advancement, and accelerate implementation of the OIC Plan of Action for the Advancement of Women.
On the sidelines of the conference, Pakistan and Türkiye also signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance cooperation in family affairs, social services, and social protection.
The successful hosting of the conference marks a significant diplomatic achievement for Pakistan, reinforcing its commitment to international cooperation and its active role within the OIC in promoting sustainable development and women’s empowerment.
