Muslim world celebrating Eid Friday & Saturday

Eid  ,Muslim World Marks Festival on Friday & Saturday

Amid escalating tensions between Israel, United States, and Iran, the Muslim world is set to observe Eid al-Fitr on two different days, reflecting both geopolitical strain and traditional differences in moon-sighting practices.

Several countries, including Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Türkiye and Australia have announced Friday, March 20, 2026, as Eid day following the completion of 30 days of Ramadan. A number of African nations, including Sudan, Somalia, Nigeria, Senegal and others, have also confirmed Friday for Eid celebrations.

In Türkiye, the date was determined through astronomical calculations, while Australia confirmed Eid based on both calculations and moon observations.

In contrast, Pakistan’s Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced that the Shawwal moon was not sighted, rejecting received testimonies as non-credible, and declared that Eid will be observed on Saturday, March 21, 2026.

Analysts say the variation stems from differing approaches to moon sighting—local visual confirmation versus scientific calculation—though this year’s divide comes at a time of heightened regional conflict.

Despite the tense geopolitical climate, Muslims around the world are preparing to celebrate Eid with religious devotion, while global attention remains fixed on the evolving situation in the region.
